first hike

my two new nieces had their first hike ever this summer.
A is six months old, R is a little over a week old.
we had so much fun. it was a short hike, but so good to be outside on such a beautiful day with all the kids.
we hiked up upper grapefruit, a local hiking and rock climbing spot.
A, being six months old, had so much fun taking in the wilderness and time with others.
she loved her backpack ride up the hill. {hope liked the kid carrier too}.
R, at a few days old, slept most the trip away, as is usual per her age.
the older nieces and nephews enjoyed being outside. they love exploring and were excited to show little A things
they discovered along the way. i love how kids are such sponges of the world around them.

taking in the summer for it lasts for such a small time here on the upper side of the planet.

day fourteen {we are here}

we finally made it to fairbanks, ak!
i woke up to the beautiful alaska mountains!
the drive today was so short compared to what we had been through.
i don't know if hope could sense our readiness or if she has some kind of special sense of direction,
but she was all over the car today. she could not sit still.
she put her paws up on the stiring wheel and looked ahead for home.
i had my first alaska coffee at beaver fever cafe.
we stopped by the church first where they had a welcome party for us ready to take a picture.
{very glad i was able to take a shower in canada!}
my next stop was work so that we could close on our house.
i had to actually start my job for the bank to approve our loan.
in the end my boss had to complete four forms confirming that i really do work for rjg
{thankful that i have a very patient boss}.
after arriving we had to wait one week to get into our new house.
but we did... and i love it!

day thirteen

today was all about the drive. we woke up to our little alarm clock named hope
at 6:47 a.m. just outside of watson lake.
not too much happened today besides driving.
we did however get showers! a shower never felt so good!
the most exciting thing was finding starbucks in whitehorse!
whitehorse has been built up a lot in the past few years and acquired a starbucks.
i was able to catch up on #shereadstruth while my camera battery charged and ben did a little grocery shopping.
for dinner we stopped at buckshot betty's {as tradition goes we must stop at her restaurant.
betty also had just finished a complete rebuild of her restaurant}.
we enjoyed our dinner at 9p.m. in complete sunlight.
we made it passed the canadian border into alaska! yeah!
we stopped at a pulloff with the most beautiful view of the mountains. a perfect place for tea and journaling.
next stop tomorrow, fairbanks and my office {so we can close on our house}.

fyi - today's pictures uploaded backwards.
