hike to wickersham dome

we took the kids for hike up north to wickersham dome several weeks ago. i finally have a chance to post the pics. it was a beautiful day. the frost was out in the morning and the sun all afternoon. everything melted in halfs. the blueberries were still out but frozen. one brave soul decided to give it a try and found them to be a delcious desert berry, kind of like a berry shake in a bite. we all had our fill of blueberries. there were so many of them hope's feet turned blue and her mouth (since she has learned how to each them off the bush). hope is a very silly dog and we love her all the more for it.
there are a ton of pics of my newest niece, but she is just too cute for one pic!
 happy hiking from alaska!

falling in love...

fall is the time to fall in love.
this year for fall i am falling in love with fairbanks.
i never ever. ever. ever. thought i would say those words, but it is true.
for the past decade i always said this is the last place i would ever live again, but here i am... and in love.
there is so much to this town that i did not get connected with before.
now i'm connected to the art and the culture of the place.
i have changed a lot also from the first time i lived here.
i understand the culture better and it seems to tolerate my outdoor loving girliness.

it is so beautiful this time of year, with the leaves falling yellow,
the foggy mornings, covered in dew.
it is time to put on cozy layers and cuddle up with some african autumn tea.

here are some pictures of one of our last camp outs this season and a moose hunting trip in the mountains.
